treatment of humeral shaft fractures: minimally invasive plate osteosynthesis versus open reduction and internal fixation

چکیده
conclusions due to the shorter :union: time, to some extent less complication rate and comparable functional and clinical results, the authors recommend to use the mipo technique in treating the mid-distal humeral shaft fracture. results the median of :union: time was shorter in the mipo group (4 months versus 5 months). the time of surgery and functional outcomes based on the ucla and meps scores were the same. the incidence of varus deformity was more than 5° and was higher and the incidence of non:union:, infection and iatrogenic radial nerve injury were lower in the mipo group; however, the differences were not significant. patients and methods in the current prospective case-control study, 65 patients with humeral shaft fractures were treated using orif (33 patients) or mipo (32 patients). time of surgery, time of :union:, incidence of varus deformity and complications were compared between the two groups. also, the university of california-los angeles (ucla) shoulder rating scale and mayo elbow performance score (meps) were used to compare the functional outcomes between the two groups. background the optimal technique for operative fixation of humeral shaft fractures remains controversial and warrants research. objectives the purpose of the current study was to compare the functional and clinical outcomes of conventional open reduction and internal fixation (orif) with minimally invasive plate osteosynthesis (mipo) in patients with fractures in two-third distal humeral shaft.

متن کاملMinimally Invasive Plate Osteosynthesis Using a Screw Compression Method for Treatment of Humeral Shaft Fractures
Background This study aims to compare the surgical outcomes of open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) and minimally invasive plate osteosynthesis (MIPO) using a screw compression method in simple humeral shaft fractures. Methods This retrospective study was performed with 50 patients who had surgical interventions for the treatment of simple humeral shaft fractures and had follow-ups of ...
متن کاملMinimally invasive plate osteosynthesis of the humeral shaft
Although conservative management of humeral diaphyseal fractures has shown good results in about 90% of cases [1, 2], there are both absolute and relative indications for surgical treatment, such as polytrauma, open fractures, bilateral fractures, floating elbow, etc [3]. Minimally invasive surgical techniques in diaphyseal fractures of long bones have shown advantages over the open conventiona...
متن کاملEffects of different surgical techniques on mid-distal humeral shaft vascularity: open reduction and internal fixation versus minimally invasive plate osteosynthesis
BACKGROUND Humeral shaft fractures are generally managed with the conventional posterior open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) or minimally invasive plate osteosynthesis (MIPO). This study was aimed at comparing the outcomes of these surgical techniques in terms of the vascular integrity of the mid-distal humeral shaft. METHODS Twelve upper limbs were harvested from 6 fresh cadavers. OR...

BACKGROUND The objective of this meta-analysis was to compare the efficacy and safety of minimally invasive plate osteosynthesis (MIPO) and conventional plate osteosynthesis (CPO) for humeral shaft fracture. METHODS Potential academic articles were identified from the Cochrane Library, Medline (1966-2016.3), PubMed (1966-2016.3), Embase (1980-2016.3), and ScienceDirect (1966-2016.3). Gray stu...
متن کاملLimited open reduction is better for simple- distal tibial shaft fractures than minimally invasive plate osteosynthesis.
The aim of this study was to compare the effects and indications of minimally invasive plate osteosynthesis (MIPO) and limited open reduction (LOR) for managing distal tibial shaft fractures. A total of 79 cases of distal tibial shaft fractures were treated surgically in our trauma center. The 79 fracture cases were classified into type A, B, and C (C1) according to the Arbeitsgemeinschaft für ...
